actually now I often have not enough ressources to buy all the units available. It depends, I play on hard and to succeed I always have to rush for towns at the beginning, but after I have secured a few towns and forts it's back to normal. Perhaps this isn't the best way to go at it but it worked for me :) Picking perks that increase your speed on land also helps. This worked pretty well for me, until I was strong enough (and him weakened enough) for a relatively easy kill. I kept funneling new minions to my main hero using a train of heroes I bought myself so I didn't have to move my main hero at all. I stationed my main hero right before gerhart's endbase and kept chainkilling his other 2 heroes everytime they came out (this gives you experience and it also drains the main hero's minions while doing so. (I waited pretty long on the map to try and grab as many items as I could). The AI sends out 2 different heroes ontop of gerhart which you must defeat before gerhart pops out of hiding. Everytime your hero gets a choice between experience or gold, I'd personally pick experience and level your hero up using the exp bonus perk (take this one early on for the best effect). You can easily upgrade all your bases and your minion dwellings aswel to get the improved minions and still not be in a pinch for money. On that campaign you have no need for gold since your income will be massive, gold shouldn't be an issue at all. I don't claim to be a very pro HOMM gamer but at least I have played most of them and some experience. One more idea: Maybe on easy you could try to wait a few weeks so you can recruit new troops, if you are lucky you then slowly outnumber the wolf as his troops might grow slower on easy. It shouldn't be to much trouble and the positive thing is you don't lose the dynasty xp you got so far. If you can't beat the level with your units I would suggest to restart the map. Only fight with the secondary hero if the main hero has reached the xp cap. Also try to stick to one hero and do all the fights with him so he gets really strong (the main hero would be the way to go for). I also tend to take experience points instead of gold which leads to a stronger hero (there might be situations were gold is the better choice). Basically if you lost too many units better hit the "replay" button at the end of the turn. Healing for mages as well as reincforcements for warriors and guardian angel for griffin guys helps alot. A hint I can give you is always try to lose as less minions as possible.
